Preface

Dear readers,

First introduced in 1995 and revised in 2000, the book “Vietnam Education and Training Directory” has been appreciated by local and international readers as an important tool to learn more about education and training of Vietnam. With a view to providing readers with more systematic and updated information about the sector of education and training of Vietnam, the International Co-operation Department encouraged by the Leadership of Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has decided to re-publish this book.

In addition to the general introduction to the sector of education and training of Vietnam, the Educational Development Strategy 2001-2010 as well as key statistics of the sector, the Editing Board has made attempts to provide important information about the various levels of education: from early childhood to postgraduate. The Directory also clarifies key functions and tasks of the departments, organizations and projects concerned affiliated with MOET as stipulated in the Decree No. 85/2003/ND-CP dated 18 July 2003 of the Government of Vietnam.

The Directory also presents the most helpful information about higher institutions in Vietnam as well as the documents and annexes which potential foreign partners may find it necessary if they are to co-operate with their Vietnamese counterparts in setting up 100% foreign-own institutions and/or joint programmes. This information, which is accurate at the time of printing, also relates to the country and people of Vietnam, the contact information of the ministries of Vietnam as well as that of embassies and general consulates of Vietnam in foreign countries and territories.

We would like to express our gratitude for the guidance of the Leadership of MOET, the support and co-operation of MOET related departments, institutes, centers, universities, colleges, education and training departments of provinces and cities in providing information for this edition. Our thanks go to MOET officials and experts of the International Co-operation Department for their contribution to compiling this book. Especially, we would like to extend our most sincere thanks to H.E. Prof. Dr. Sc. Tran Van Nhung, Vice-Minister of Education and Training, former Director of the International Relations Department, MOET (presently the International Co-operation Department, MOET) for initiating and being Editor-in-chief for the first and second editions as well as for contributing new ideas and valuable guidance for this third edition of the "Vietnam Education and Training Directory". Finally, we acknowledge the donations of all local and international organization, the co-operation of Education Publishing House in the leadership of General Director Ngo Tran Ai and the assistance in English language edition made by Ms. Sandy Harrison to finalize this book.

Last but not least, we would appreciate any comments from readers in order for us to improve the quality of the new edition in the future.
