Institute of Journalism and Propaganda 1. Foundation Date
The Institute of Journalism and Propaganda was established on 16 January 1962.
2. Functions and Tasks
- Provide training and further training courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels for those who work in the field of journalism, publishing and communication.
- Train and retrain political and theoretical trainers from Party schools and organizations, reporters of newspapers and magazines, etc.
3. Degrees and Programs
The Institute offers a wide range of education which includes:
3.1. Undergraduate Education
- Four-year courses for school graduates
- Two-year-and-a-half courses for those who want the second degree.
3.2. Postgraduate Education
- Master’s degree: 2 years
- Doctoral degree: 2-3 years.

5. Faculty and Students
- The teaching and researching staff of 216 include 8 Professors, 53 Doctors and 95 Masters.
- The total number of concentration students at present are of 2,169.
- The total number of in-service students at present are
of 3,000.
6. Scientific Research
Over the last 10 years, the Institute has implemented 40
of state and ministerial research projects, 277 of local projects, 70 of student projects and 2 of international projects; issued 106 textbooks, produced 126 training guidelines and compiled and distributed 3,000 scientific materials.
The Institute also has a Review of Journalism and Communication which is a forum for reflection and discussion of theoretical and practical issues in training and studying tasks.
7. Centers and Facilities
At present, the Institute has set up
- A centre for Public Opinion Research and Population Communication;
- A library with more than 77,000 materials;
- A campus with a student refectory, stadium, facilities for students to study and enjoy daily life;
- A lecturing hall system of national standard with the capacity of 80 classes/day;
- A big meeting hall with the capacity of 1,000 seats;
- Rooms for international conferences and workshops;
- Computer rooms (one of which is a specialized room for newspaper design and layout);
- Studios for broadcasting and television, and
- An electronic photography room.
8. International Co-operation
In all development periods, the school has highlighted the issue of international co-operation in order to increase the prestige and the quality of training and research. Aside from regular relations with international partners to exchange information and training staff, the Institute has also established cooperative relations with other organizations to implement projects in the aspects of Sociology, Communication, Journalism, etc. and hold international workshops so as to jointly do research and mutually learn in training and researching.
Now, the Institute has co-operation ties with universities and scientific researching institutions in China, Laos, Australia, the Philippines, Sweden, France, etc.
